Former UNP Deputy Leader MP Ravi Karunanayake has alleged that the Central Bank is currently operating in a problematic manner, raising concerns over its role and independence.
Speaking to the media, he claimed that despite the country facing multiple economic challenges, the Central Bank continues to downplay the situation by stating that there are no issues.
Karunanayake stressed that an independent Central Bank should focus on its core responsibilities and avoid interfering in government affairs.
He further charged that the institution is now expressing political views, instead of maintaining the neutrality expected of an independent body.
