Ravi calls for government intervention in Anojan’s case

September 29, 2026

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake called on the government and the President to intervene immediately in the case of Anojan, a Sri Lankan national facing a serious situation in Saudi Arabia following a statement he made.

Speaking at a media briefing, Karunanayake said diplomatic intervention could help secure relief for the Sri Lankan national, who is currently facing difficulties over the statement.

He stressed that the government has a responsibility to protect the rights and safety of Sri Lankan workers abroad, particularly given the large number of Sri Lankans seeking employment overseas.

Karunanayake further called for greater government attention to the welfare and protection of Sri Lankan migrant workers.
