Ravi Karunanayake Criticizes Government’s Approach to IMF and Economic Growth

Former UNP Deputy Leader and MP Ravi Karunanayake has criticized the government’s handling of the economy, calling it “stolen medicine” that fails to ensure sustainable growth.

Speaking to the media, Karunanayake stated that while the government emphasizes the need to attract investors and earn foreign exchange, it has failed to provide the necessary incentives to achieve these goals.

He further stressed that foreign investments will not flow into the country unless the government actively creates a conducive business environment.

Karunanayake argued that instead of merely following IMF directives, the government should focus on correctly implementing IMF principles. He highlighted his own tenure as Finance Minister, stating that he had successfully worked with the IMF by aligning with its core principles while ensuring economic stability and growth.
