Former United National Party Deputy Leader and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake says opposition to a possible alliance between the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) comes from only a small number of individuals.
Speaking during a political programme on a private television channel, Karunanayake claimed that those opposing the proposed alliance have lost influence within their own party.
He said the views of those individuals no longer carry significant weight, arguing that many now recognise the importance of the UNP and SJB working together.
Karunanayake also pointed out that Sri Lanka has around 85 to 90 political parties and said greater political cooperation is essential to address the country’s challenges.
He added that a broad alliance, or at least a majority of political parties working together, would be the most effective path towards national development and political stability.
