Former United National Party Deputy Leader and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake says discussions on a possible merger between the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) are progressing.
Speaking during a political programme on a private television channel, Karunanayake said the discussions are moving forward steadily and will be handled carefully.
He stressed that greater political cooperation is essential to strengthen democracy and address the country’s challenges.
Karunanayake described the UNP and the SJB as “two parties of the same family” and said a merger between the two parties is important for the country’s political future.
