Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and current MP Ravi Karunanayake says he has not received any official invitation to take part in the party’s campaign for the upcoming local government elections, despite public claims suggesting otherwise.
Speaking at a media briefing, Karunanayake noted the intensifying competition among political parties ahead of this year’s local polls and commented on the internal state of the UNP’s election campaign.
He dismissed reports that he had been asked to join UNP election rallies, stating clearly that no such notification had been communicated to him.
Karunanayake went on to say that the party is facing internal issues primarily due to the conduct of two individuals he described as “acting like ghosts,” while other members have reached out to him personally with various requests.
However, he reiterated that the UNP, as a party, has not officially invited him to participate in any of its election-related events.
The MP concluded by criticizing what he described as a double standard within the UNP, adding that the party must take responsibility for how it manages the support and votes of its membership.
