Former UNP Deputy Leader and MP Ravi Karunanayake has said the next two months will be crucial for the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to unite.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake expressed confidence that both parties would eventually work together, saying such a move would help resolve many of the challenges currently facing them.
He warned that if the opportunity for unity is not seized, both parties would have to face the consequences.
The MP also claimed that there are members in both parties who are committed to achieving unity. However, he alleged that two individuals within the UNP are obstructing the process and argued that they should be removed from the party.
Karunanayake stressed that the future of the UNP does not depend on those individuals and urged the remaining members to work together in the best interests of the party’s future.
