Rumesh Tharanga’s Javelins Damaged During Return Flight from Hungary

September 15, 2026

Four javelins belonging to leading Sri Lankan athlete Rumesh Tharanga were reportedly damaged while he was returning to Sri Lanka from Hungary.

The damage was discovered after the flight landed, and steps have been taken to lodge a complaint with the airline concerned.

“All three javelins I used for over 90 throws have been damaged. It could have been an error on the airline’s part, but what’s done is done. I am moving forward without making a major issue out of it,” Tharanga said.

The athlete was returning to Sri Lanka following a record-breaking victory.

Javelins used by elite athletes are specialized equipment, and damage to them can affect training and preparations for upcoming competitions.
