During the 79th anniversary of the United National Party (UNP) held at the Thalawathugoda Monarch, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa did not attend in person, despite receiving an invitation as a party leader. Instead, he sent SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara to represent the party at the event.
In recent days, Premadasa had visited UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in both the hospital and prison. Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader Dinesh Gunawardena was also present at the convention.
Reports indicate that discussions may have taken place regarding the organization of 1,000 protests across the country aimed at challenging the government, a proposal reportedly presented by Ranil Wickremesinghe during the convention.
