Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has proposed establishing a specialised armed force dedicated to protecting tusker elephants in Sri Lanka, modelled on a programme operating in African countries.
Addressing Parliament today, Premadasa referred to former Kenyan President Jomo Kenyatta, who established a specialised armed force to protect elephants, including the renowned tusker known as Ahmed.
The Opposition Leader stressed that Sri Lanka should immediately introduce a similar initiative to strengthen the protection of its tusker elephants.
