The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the appointment of Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition at the global governing body for cricket.
Gupta, who has previously served as the Head of Sports at Disney Star, brings with him a wealth of experience in sports broadcasting, media rights negotiations, and strategic development. His tenure at Star saw him play a key role in shaping cricket’s global broadcast presence, including the expansion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and ICC events to broader international audiences.
In a statement, the ICC expressed confidence in Gupta’s vision and leadership, citing his strong track record in driving innovation, increasing fan engagement, and fostering commercial partnerships. The governing body said his appointment comes at a pivotal moment as the ICC looks to expand the sport’s reach and relevance globally, especially with upcoming tournaments such as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 on the horizon.
Gupta will succeed Geoff Allardice, who had been serving in the position on a permanent basis since 2022. The ICC acknowledged Allardice’s contributions and leadership through several challenging years, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent restructuring of the international cricket calendar.
Reacting to his appointment, Gupta said he was “honoured and humbled” to take on the new role and looked forward to working with stakeholders across the cricketing world to grow the game further. He highlighted priorities such as digital transformation, global outreach, and ensuring sustainable growth in both established and emerging cricket markets.
Gupta is expected to assume office later this year, with a transition period already underway. His appointment signals a strategic push by the ICC to strengthen cricket’s commercial, digital, and international footprint in the coming years.
