Seventeen Sri Lankans Deported from Israel for Violating Employment Agreements

Seventeen Sri Lankan nationals in Israel are being deported for violating their employment agreements, according to Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara.

The individuals entered Israel on agricultural work visas but were found working in bakeries after leaving their designated workplaces. Israeli authorities detained them during inspections, as the country strictly monitors foreign labor practices to ensure compliance.

Ambassador Bandara stressed that Israel prohibits foreign workers from switching to employment categories not specified in their original visa agreements, adding that there are no legal provisions for such changes after entry.

In a similar case, a Sri Lankan woman who arrived for caregiving work a year ago was deported for breaching her employment terms. Previously, another Sri Lankan national was deported over allegations of theft.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has urged workers to honor their contractual obligations to avoid deportation and help maintain strong bilateral relations between the two countries.
