The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers in several areas across the country this afternoon, particularly after 1.00 p.m.
According to the latest weather advisory, rainfall is expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern, and Northern provinces, as well as in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts. Fairly heavy falls exceeding 50mm are likely in parts of the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
In addition, a few showers may occur during the morning in the Western province and in the Puttalam, Galle, Matara, and Ratnapura districts.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions are also expected in some areas of the Central and Uva provinces during the morning hours.
