The Department of Meteorology says the prevailing showery condition over the south-western parts of the island is expected to continue during the next 24 hours (26).
Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western and Southern provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Heavy rainfall of more than 100 mm is likely in some areas of Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Light showers may also occur in North-Central Province and in Matale, Mannar and Jaffna districts.
Meanwhile, strong winds of around 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in Central, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts, the Department said.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by strong winds.
