The opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has launched a special unit to investigate allegations of arbitrary transfers of government officials within state and provincial councils.
In a statement, the SJB expressed concern over reports of a systematic program transferring officials between service stations on what it described as “unacceptable and illogical grounds.”
Politicization Allegations
The SJB criticized the government for undermining public service independence, a promise made during its rise to power. The party alleged that these transfers are part of a targeted strategy tied to upcoming local government elections and ongoing cooperative society elections, resulting in increased politicization within the public service.
Call for Immediate Action
The SJB has called on the government and provincial council authorities to immediately suspend all arbitrary transfers. The party emphasized the need for fair governance practices, especially during election periods, to uphold the integrity of the public service.
This initiative highlights the SJB’s commitment to addressing issues of political interference and ensuring accountability within the administrative system.
