Special transport services remain in operation today to assist passengers returning to Colombo after the New Year holidays.
The National Transport Commission (NTC) stated that additional buses have been deployed, particularly on expressways, in anticipation of heavy commuter traffic over the weekend and tomorrow.
NTC Director General Nilan Miranda confirmed that special bus services are operating from areas including Monaragala, Embilipitiya, Badulla, Bandarawela and Nuwara Eliya.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Railways has also arranged several special train services to facilitate return journeys.
These trains are operating from Anuradhapura, Kankesanthurai, Matara and Beliatta towards Colombo to accommodate increased passenger demand.
