The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment has announced plans to provide new overseas employment opportunities in Japan and the Middle East, in addition to existing programmes in countries such as South Korea and Israel.
Bureau Chairman Ananda Lal Hettiarachchi said around 2,000 jobs are currently available for airport construction projects in Dubai, with applicants expected to secure employment at a maximum cost of Rs. 150,000.
A further 800 supervisory positions are also available, with the total cost for applicants capped at Rs. 180,000, covering all related expenses, he said.
Sri Lankan graduates can also apply for positions at a wellness centre in the United Arab Emirates without paying a recruitment fee, as the relevant institution will cover the associated expenses.
Meanwhile, the Bureau is working with three Japanese companies to expand employment opportunities for Sri Lankans. As a pilot project under a Memorandum of Understanding with a Japanese construction company, 23 students are currently undergoing training in Sapugaskanda.
The Japanese company will bear the cost of technical and Japanese-language training, with plans to expand the programme and create further employment opportunities.
The Bureau has also signed an agreement with Japanese company Meta Techno to create job opportunities for ICT graduates with basic Japanese-language skills.
In addition, another Japanese company is offering 1,000 truck-driving positions for school dropouts. Applicants will require a light vehicle driving licence and Japanese-language skills, while the Bureau has indicated that it will assist eligible applicants in obtaining the required qualifications.
