An emergency executive committee meeting of Sri Lanka Cricket has been convened today to discuss the possible resignation of all committee members and the likelihood of an early election, according to reports.
The state-run ‘Dinamina’ newspaper reported that an official statement regarding any resignations is expected following the meeting.
The current executive committee, led by Chairman Shammi Silva, is officially due to remain in office until next year. However, discussions on a potential election have intensified.
Reports suggest that, following any resignations, a short-term interim management committee may be appointed to oversee the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket. Several former cricketers are said to have been proposed for inclusion in this interim body.
The interim committee is expected to convene a special general meeting and appoint an election committee to organise the next Sri Lanka Cricket election.
Shammi Silva was first elected as Chairman in February 2019, defeating Jayantha Dharmadasa. He was re-elected in 2021 without contest and has since continued to serve with the backing of the majority of member associations.
