Sri Lanka has expressed deep concern over the recent developments in Venezuela and is closely monitoring the situation, the government said.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of respecting international law and the UN Charter, including the prohibition of the use of force, non-intervention, peaceful settlement of disputes, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
The statement added that Sri Lanka places great importance on the safety and well-being of the Venezuelan people and the stability of the region, calling on all parties to prioritize peaceful resolution through dialogue and de-escalation.
At this critical juncture, Sri Lanka highlighted the need for the United Nations and its organs, including the UN Security Council, to engage in addressing the situation and work toward a peaceful resolution that respects the safety, well-being, and sovereign rights of the Venezuelan people.
