Digital Economy Minister Eranga Weeraratne has announced plans to issue the electronic National Identity Card (e-NIC) by the middle of next year.
Addressing the media, the Minister said the e-NIC will simplify identity verification while ensuring the security of biometric information.
He emphasized that the new system will help curb online fraud, reduce the need for repeated document certification by government and private institutions, and provide stronger protection against online fraudsters.
