October 25, 2025

The Indian High Commission in Colombo announced today that Sri Lanka’s Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Anura Karunathilaka, will visit India to participate in the 2025 Indian Maritime Week, scheduled to take place in Mumbai from October 27 to 28.

Organised by India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the event will be held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre and is expected to bring together global maritime leaders, industry representatives, and policymakers to discuss key developments in port infrastructure, logistics, and sustainable maritime growth.

During his visit, Minister Karunathilaka is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with India’s Minister of Ports, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, focusing on enhancing cooperation in port development, shipping, and logistics.

He will also attend the Cabinet meeting of the Indian Maritime Week and meet leading figures from the maritime and industrial sectors.

According to the Indian High Commission, the Indian Maritime Week — running from October 27 to 31 — will serve as a major platform for advancing international cooperation, modernising port operations, and attracting global investment in the shipping and logistics sectors.

Minister Karunathilaka’s participation underscores the deepening economic partnership between Sri Lanka and India and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in trade, logistics, and infrastructure development.
