Sri Lanka has recorded more than 55,000 dengue cases so far in 2026 after more than 1,000 new infections were reported within the past 24 hours, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The latest figures released by the NDCU show that the total number of dengue cases this year has risen to 55,406, while the death toll has increased to 32.
Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said 1,024 new dengue cases were confirmed during the past 24 hours alone, indicating that the outbreak continues to spread across the country.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media has established a Dengue Operations Centre to strengthen the coordination of dengue prevention and control activities and to facilitate the rapid reporting of information and complaints.
As part of the initiative, the Ministry has introduced a dedicated public hotline—0117 966366—to provide information, receive complaints, and assist the public with dengue-related inquiries.
Health authorities have urged members of the public to use the hotline to report mosquito breeding sites, seek advice on dengue prevention, and notify officials of any concerns related to dengue control activities.
The Ministry emphasized that public participation remains crucial in controlling the spread of dengue and called on residents to regularly inspect their surroundings, eliminate stagnant water, and destroy mosquito breeding sites to help reduce transmission.
