Suspect Arrested for Rs. 1 Million Online Bank Fraud

A suspect has been arrested for allegedly defrauding Rs. 1,000,024 by creating a fraudulent website designed to mimic the official site of a private bank, police said.

Investigations were initiated following a complaint received by the North Western Province Unit of the Computer Crimes Investigation Division (CCID).

The suspect was taken into custody yesterday (20) and brought to the Wariyapola Police Station.

Police identified the individual as a 22-year-old resident of Minuwangoda.

He is scheduled to be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court today (21).

Further investigations are being carried out by the North Western Province Unit of the CCID.
