The Department of Meteorology says showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, Eastern and North Central provinces after 2.00 p.m. today (April 05).
Fairly heavy rainfall of around 50 mm is expected at some locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa district.
Misty conditions are also likely during the early morning hours in parts of the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and North Central provinces, and in the Jaffna and Kurunegala districts.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the department noted that due to the apparent northward movement of the sun, it will be directly overhead Sri Lanka between April 05 and April 15 this year.
Accordingly, the nearest areas where the sun will be directly overhead today around 12.13 p.m. include Dodanduwa, Rathgama, Yakkalamulla, Akuressa, Mulgirigala, Ranna, Kalamatiya and Ussangoda.
