Traffic Fine Payments to Go Fully Online from September

August 20, 2026

All traffic fine payments in Sri Lanka will be made online only from September as part of the Government’s digitalisation programme, the Presidential Media Division announced.

The initiative will be implemented through GovPay, a digital payment platform designed to facilitate transactions between the public and government institutions.

The decision was highlighted during a progress review meeting on digital economy projects held at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The meeting also reviewed plans to introduce Sri Lanka’s first digital identity card before the end of this year, along with the National Super App, National QR Operation, National Data Exchange and mobile number portability.

These initiatives are part of the Government’s broader plan to develop Sri Lanka’s digital economy into a US$30 billion sector by 2030.
