Two 14-year-old schoolboys have tragically lost their lives after falling off the Jodu Ella waterfall in Knuckles while attempting to take a selfie during a bath, Panwila Police reported.
According to the police, a group of five Grade 9 students from the Knuckles Tamil Maha Vidyalaya had gone to bathe at the waterfall at around 4:30 PM on Tuesday (22). While trying to take a photograph, two of the boys slipped and fell down the waterfall, sustaining severe injuries.
One student died on the spot, while the other succumbed to his injuries en route to the Kandy National Hospital after initially being admitted to the Madolkelle Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as B. Saljith and K. Dillon, both residents of the Knuckles Estate in Thawalantenna.
The body of the student who died while being transported to the Kandy National Hospital has been placed at the Katugastota Hospital. Police said the bodies will be handed over to their relatives following post-mortem examinations.
Panwila Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
