Former United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader and MP Ravi Karunanayake said the party’s 80th anniversary marked an important moment for all party members to come together and work collectively.
Speaking to the media after the event, Karunanayake said the anniversary provided an opportunity for UNP representatives to return to the “Maha Gedara,” referring to the party’s traditional political home.
He said this represented a move towards greater unity within the party and described it as a positive development for both the country and the UNP.
Karunanayake said bringing everyone together had always been his aspiration and noted that he had discussed the matter on several occasions with UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He stressed that achieving unity could not be done by one person alone and called for everyone to come together and work for the collective well-being of the party and the country.
