A group of seven Buddhist monks, led by Vietnamese national Venerable Pannakara Thero, arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (21) to participate in the internationally recognised “Walk for Peace” programme.
The delegation was accompanied by a rescue dog named Aloka.
The “Walk for Peace” initiative is scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka from today until April 28 under state patronage.
The procession, led by Ven. Pannakara Thero together with the Maha Sangha, will carry a sacred Bodhi sapling obtained from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
A wide range of state and private institutions are supporting the event, including the Presidential Secretariat, the Clean Sri Lanka programme, the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, the Tri-Forces and Police, as well as the National Design Centre.
The programme is also expected to showcase Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage, along with its traditional crafts and cultural features, offering the public a unique cultural experience.
