The Western Province’s Education Department has issued a circular prohibiting school teachers from conducting paid tuition classes for students enrolled in their respective schools. This restriction applies during school hours, after school, weekends, and public holidays.
The circular, signed by K.A.D.R. Nishanthi Jayasinghe, Secretary of Education for the Western Province, was distributed to the Director of Education, Regional Directors, Divisional Directors, and all school principals in the province, with instructions to inform all teachers of the new regulation.
The Secretary emphasized that disciplinary action will be taken against teachers found violating these rules.
This policy was initially introduced in the Sabaragamuwa Province and later implemented in the Central Province before being adopted in the Western Province.
