“Where Are the Savings? Show the Results,” Demands Ravi Karunanayake

The government, which came to power with numerous promises, must now prove that it has delivered on them, says former UNP Deputy Leader, MP Ravi Karunanayake.

He emphasized that one of the key commitments made by the current administration was to reduce government spending and increase savings. This included cutting ministerial positions, minimizing vehicle expenses for MPs, foregoing official residences, avoiding helicopter travel, curbing corruption, and eliminating MPs’ pensions.

Addressing Parliament, Karunanayake questioned whether the government could transparently show where the money saved from these measures has been allocated. He argued that if the savings have been directed toward capital expenditure, with clear figures to support the claim, the government’s efforts would be commendable.

He further stated that simply making verbal claims is not enough—demonstrating tangible results would be a significant investment in the country’s future.
