Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Madhura Seneviratne has announced that the results of the 2025 General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Examination are expected to be released next week.
According to the Deputy Minister, the process of updating and verifying candidates’ information is currently in its final stage ahead of the release of the results.
The 2025 GCE Ordinary Level Examination was conducted from February 17 to 26, 2026, with a total of 451,463 candidates sitting for the examination across the country.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has issued a special notice regarding the completion of syllabi for the 2026 GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations.
In a circular addressed to principals of government and government-approved private schools, as well as senior education officials, Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa instructed schools to take proactive measures to ensure that prescribed syllabi are completed on schedule.
The Secretary noted that where delays have occurred, schools should implement advance planning and, where necessary, allocate additional instructional time to ensure that all subject content is fully covered before the examinations.
The Ministry further emphasized that the 2026 GCE O/L and A/L examinations will be conducted according to the dates specified in the academic calendar and that no changes to the examination schedule are anticipated.
Secretary Kaluwewa stressed that schools must take all necessary steps to complete the relevant syllabi and adequately prepare students for the examinations.
The Ministry stated that ensuring syllabus completion remains a priority in order to maintain academic standards and provide students with sufficient preparation time ahead of the national examinations.
