Nearly 5,000 Dengue Cases Reported in January; Two Deaths Confirmed

The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) reports that 4,943 dengue cases have been recorded in Sri Lanka before the end of January 2025, with two dengue-related deaths confirmed.

The NDCU has also identified 16 high-risk dengue zones across the country.

The Gampaha District recorded the highest number of cases (764), followed by:

  • Colombo District674 cases
  • Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) area608 cases
  • Galle District315 cases
  • Kandy District303 cases
  • Batticaloa District278 cases
  • Jaffna District201 cases

Authorities urge the public to take preventive measures to curb the spread of dengue.
