Ravi Karunanayake, Member of Parliament and former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), has questioned the government over the transparency of Sri Lanka’s current official reserves and upcoming foreign debt obligations.
Karunanayake urged the government to disclose details of the country’s usable official reserves, restricted reserves, liabilities to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), import cover and foreign debt repayments due over the next 12 months.
He also stressed the need to prepare economic forecasts and alternative scenarios covering the next three, six and 12 months, taking into account possible changes in fuel prices, fiscal gaps and reserve levels.
The MP emphasised that making this information publicly available is essential for assessing the country’s financial position and planning for potential economic challenges.
