“The Public Has a Right to Know Who Will Bear the Cost of the Economic Crisis,” Says Ravi Karunanayake

October 29, 2026

Ravi Karunanayake, Member of Parliament and former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), has called for a clear assessment of how current domestic and international challenges are affecting Sri Lanka’s economy and the livelihoods of its people.

Karunanayake stressed the need to assess the impact of the ongoing global crisis on economic growth, inflation, household income, poverty levels and government revenue.

He emphasised that the public has a right to know who will ultimately bear the financial burden of these challenges.

The MP urged the government to submit quarterly reports to Parliament detailing financing arrangements, progress towards economic targets, outcomes and potential risks.
