The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has issued a strong warning about deceptive AI-generated videos circulating on social media, particularly Facebook, that misuse the image of the CBSL Governor.
In an official statement, CBSL clarified that these fraudulent videos falsely depict the Governor endorsing investment schemes with unrealistic financial returns. They also direct viewers to suspicious external links, likely intended to defraud individuals.
CBSL categorically denies any involvement in such promotions and reaffirms that it does not endorse or engage in any investment schemes. It condemned the use of deep-fake technology and AI-generated content to mislead the public.
The central bank urges the public to:
- Stay vigilant and avoid engaging with such fraudulent content.
- Verify information only through CBSL’s official website (www.cbsl.gov.lk) and social media channels.
- Report suspicious content to CBSL via its official communication platforms.
CBSL further stated that it is collaborating with law enforcement authorities to take action against these scams.
