Sri Lanka Customs Generates Rs. 165 Billion from Vehicle Imports in 2025.
Sri Lanka Customs has generated approximately Rs. 165 billion in revenue from vehicle imports so far in 2025, following the government’s decision to lift the ban on automobile imports earlier this year.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, Additional Director General of Customs Seevali Arukgoda said the department is well on track to exceed its annual revenue target of Rs. 2,115 billion for 2025.
“In 2024, the target was Rs. 1,533 billion, and we surpassed it by collecting Rs. 1,535 billion. As of mid-June this year, Customs has already collected Rs. 900 billion,” he stated.
Vehicle imports resumed on February 1, 2025, following the lifting of a years-long ban. Since then, around 14,000 vehicles have been brought into the country, contributing Rs. 165 billion to government revenue. Arukgoda noted that Customs expects to collect approximately Rs. 450 billion from vehicle imports alone by the end of this year.
When asked about possible disruptions to imports due to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, Arukgoda confirmed that, as of now, there have been no reported shipping delays affecting Sri Lanka.
