A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck northern Iran on Friday as Israeli airstrikes continued to target the country amid ongoing regional tensions.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, with the epicenter located approximately 37 kilometres southwest of the city of Semnan.
Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA confirmed that there were no casualties and only minor structural damage reported in the affected areas.
State television, however, reported the quake as measuring 5.5 in magnitude and said it shook parts of Semnan Province, particularly the city of Sorkheh.
Tremors were also felt in the capital, Tehran, located about 150 kilometres from the epicenter, though no major disruptions were reported.
The seismic event comes as Iran continues to experience Israeli airstrikes following escalating military confrontations between the two countries.
