Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), MP Ravi Karunanayake, has accused the current leadership of attempting to marginalize senior party members and foster a culture of blind obedience.
In an interview with ceylonwire.lk, Karunanayake alleged that two individuals—whom he described as “demons”—are working to transform the UNP into a “Yes Sir, No Sir” party by removing experienced members and surrounding themselves only with newcomers.
He emphasized that the UNP has historically been a party capable of uniting people from all communities and backgrounds, and warned that such internal efforts threaten its inclusive character.
Despite the challenges, Karunanayake said the party leadership continues to maintain a working relationship with him. However, he also noted that the two disruptive figures are trying to sideline him by deliberately excluding him from key party events.
“They are trying to distance me from the party, just as they are doing with other seniors,” he said.
