CPC Assures Steady Fuel Supply Amid Concerns

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has assured the public that there will be no fuel shortage in Sri Lanka under any circumstances, as the necessary fuel orders for the next two months have already been secured.

CPC Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna confirmed that fuel procurement has been completed for the upcoming period, eliminating the risk of shortages. “All required shipments for the next two months have been ordered and confirmed. There is absolutely no reason to anticipate a fuel crisis during this time,” he stated.

While acknowledging concerns over fuel transportation and sourcing routes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, Rajakaruna emphasized that CPC is actively coordinating with suppliers to ensure continuity. He also noted that most Octane 92 petrol imports originate from stable suppliers such as Malaysia, Singapore, and India, with only one shipment expected from Oman.

Rajakaruna further stressed that even if the Strait of Hormuz were to close—a major global energy chokepoint—Sri Lanka’s fuel supply would not be affected.

He added that the country’s diesel imports do not come from conflict-affected regions, further strengthening the security of supply lines.

In response to reports of fuel hoarding, the CPC Chairman warned that legal action would be taken against individuals or entities engaged in such activities, which could disrupt the distribution system and create unnecessary panic.

The CPC reiterated its commitment to maintaining a stable and reliable fuel supply and urged the public not to fall prey to misinformation.
