With India’s tour of Bangladesh officially postponed, discussions are currently underway to stage a limited-overs series between India and Sri Lanka in mid-August, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The deferment of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), which was initially scheduled for the July–August window, has created a rare opening in Sri Lanka’s cricket calendar. This coincides with a gap in India’s commitments, making the proposed bilateral series a logistical possibility.
Although no formal announcement has been made, cricket boards from both countries are reportedly exploring the feasibility of organizing a short-format series consisting of three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
India had not been scheduled to tour Sri Lanka this year, with their original focus on the now-delayed Bangladesh series. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is set to tour Zimbabwe later in August, with matches beginning on August 29. This makes mid-August the only realistic window for a potential India-Sri Lanka series.
The last time India toured Sri Lanka was in July 2023. India clinched the T20I series, while Sri Lanka emerged victorious in the ODI leg. A mid-August series this year could serve as valuable preparation for both teams ahead of upcoming international commitments.
