Australia Clinch Dominant Victory as Opponents Crumble for 27 in 87-Ball Rout Featuring Starc Hat-Trick

Australia completed a dominant 3-0 series sweep in the Frank Worrell Trophy on Monday, dismantling the West Indies for just 27 runs — the second-lowest total in Test cricket history — in a staggering 87-ball collapse at Sabina Park, Kingston.

Chasing 204 for victory in the day-night Test, the hosts were bowled out in just 14.3 overs, with Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland orchestrating one of the most ruthless bowling performances ever seen in the format.

Starc, celebrating his 100th Test appearance, delivered a career-best performance, taking 6 for 9 in 7.3 overs. He tore through the West Indies top order with the pink Dukes ball, becoming the second-fastest bowler in history to claim a five-wicket haul in just 15 deliveries — now a new Test record.

The left-armer’s blistering opening spell saw him reach the 400-wicket milestone and register his 16th five-wicket haul in Tests. Starc was later named Player of the Match for his historic effort.

After the tea break, Boland added to the West Indies’ woes by claiming a hat-trick — only the tenth by an Australian in men’s Test history. He dismissed Justin Greaves, Shamar Joseph, and Jomel Warrican in consecutive deliveries to wrap up the innings in dramatic fashion, finishing with 3 for 2 from two overs.

Seven West Indies batters were dismissed without scoring, setting a new low for the team in Test cricket. The 27-run total is second only to New Zealand’s infamous 26 against England in 1955.

  • 26 – New Zealand vs England, 1955

  • 19 balls – Scott Boland (AUS) vs ENG, 2021

Australia’s emphatic 176-run victory not only sealed the series in style but also delivered one of the most memorable Test matches in recent memory.
