Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake has criticized the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, accusing it of saying one thing to the international community while doing the opposite at home.
In an interview with ceylonwire.lk, Karunanayake described the Central Bank as “a beacon for the world, a beacon for the home,” suggesting it presents a polished image internationally but fails to uphold the same standards domestically.
He pointed out that while the Central Bank has publicly opposed salary increases, it has reportedly granted salary hikes to its own employees. “How can the Central Bank advise the public to live within their means while failing to do the same?” he questioned.
Karunanayake further accused the institution of contributing to the country’s economic problems, asserting that inconsistent policies and a lack of accountability have undermined public trust.
