The Powerloom Development Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) is set to boost trade linkages between the Indian and Sri Lankan textile industries, aiming for sustainable, long-term cooperation, according to its chairman, K. Sakthivel.
A delegation of leading Indian fabric exporters recently visited Sri Lanka to enhance bilateral trade and foster industry collaboration. Mr. Sakthivel was also recognised for his decade-long participation in Intex South Asia.
During the visit, the Indian team engaged with Sri Lankan textile importers, garment manufacturers, and trade associations on strategies to increase sourcing of Indian fabrics and made-ups. Discussions also covered B2B partnerships, direct trade channels, participation in trade fairs and buyer–seller meets, as well as improvements in logistics and market access.
The delegation met Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industries to explore joint ventures, skill development, knowledge exchange, and sustainable textile practices. They also met the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka in Colombo, where they showcased the strength and diversity of India’s textile sector, particularly in powerloom products and home textiles.
The visiting team included PDEXCIL vice chairman Chandrasekar, Export Panel Convener Bharath Chhajer, and senior members of the Fabric Exporters Association representing India’s top fabric and home textile exporters.
