The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to call off the island-wide strike that was scheduled to begin today (11).
The trade union action, which was to commence at 8.00 a.m., was planned over several demands, including concerns regarding the implementation of doctors’ transfers.
However, the GMOA Executive Committee announced that it had temporarily suspended the strike following “positive outcomes” from a meeting with Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
The association stated it will continue to monitor developments before taking further decisions. As part of ongoing trade union measures, the GMOA advised Registered House Officers (RHOs) not to apply for the current post-intern vacancies, claiming that the “arbitrarily published” vacancy list is subject to amendment.
