U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met at the White House yesterday for a new round of talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
A group of European leaders also attended the discussions, which came just days after Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska—a meeting that failed to revive hopes for a ceasefire.
However, the latest talks produced no concrete commitments on security guarantees for Ukraine or steps toward a peace agreement.
Following the meeting, Trump wrote on his Truth Social account that he had urged Putin to begin direct talks with Zelensky. He added that once such bilateral talks take place, a trilateral summit involving himself, Putin, and Zelensky would be arranged at a location yet to be decided.
Meanwhile, a Putin adviser confirmed that Trump and Putin had spoken by phone for 40 minutes on Monday.
