President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to sign several significant bilateral agreements during his upcoming state visit to Japan, securing a grant of 963 million Japanese yen from the Japanese government.
The grant includes 463 million yen to develop Sri Lanka’s dairy sector and 500 million yen for an official defense assistance project aimed at strengthening the Navy. Under the dairy sector initiative, Japan will provide modern equipment and technical support to enhance the capacity of the Department of Animal Production and Health. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Navy will receive drones and surveillance technology to support maritime security, investigation, and monitoring operations.
In addition to these agreements, the President, who also serves as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, is scheduled to sign several official exchange documents. These projects have been approved by the Cabinet.
President Dissanayake will depart for Japan on September 26 at the invitation of the Japanese government. During the visit, he will attend the World Expo International Trade Fair on September 27 and engage in high-level discussions with senior Japanese officials.
