Former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka is reportedly set to be appointed vice-captain of the national team for the upcoming Twenty20 series in Pakistan, with Charith Asalanka leading the side.
Sri Lanka has not had a permanent vice-captain in recent international tours, but the selection committee is considering a deputy captain to assist Asalanka in leadership duties. Shanaka, the team’s most experienced T20 player, is viewed as a strong candidate given his prior leadership experience.
The national squad is currently training at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota. Officials said the venue was selected due to continuous rains elsewhere and the favorable batting conditions, which are expected to mirror those in Pakistan.
Sri Lanka will first face Pakistan in a three-match ODI series starting November 11, before joining Zimbabwe in a T20 tri-series. The team is scheduled to depart for Pakistan on November 7.
