The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for severe lightning across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North Western, North Central, Eastern and Southern provinces, as well as the Mannar and Vavuniya districts.
The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. today (12), will remain in effect until 1.00 a.m. tomorrow (13).
The Department warned that several areas in the affected regions are likely to experience thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning. Temporary, localised strong winds may also occur during thundershowers.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise the risk of damage caused by lightning.
