The government has decided to import frozen vegetables that meet the standards set by the Department of Agriculture, Commissioner General of Essential Services B.K. Prabhat Chandrakeerthi announced.
He stated that steps will be taken to publish lists of essential food items and other necessities submitted by District Secretaries through the media. This measure aims to identify the challenges faced by the public in accessing essential supplies during the ongoing disaster situation and to inform relevant suppliers.
According to Chandrakeerthi, the initiative will make it possible for suppliers to directly contact the respective District and Divisional Secretaries and take swift action to deliver the required goods.
The government is also making arrangements to hold discussions with Litro Gas Company to identify potential issues in the distribution of LP gas and to implement immediate solutions.
“In addition, District Secretaries have been instructed to submit information received from Divisional Secretaries, as well as details obtained from other government agencies, to the Prime Minister’s Office to support medium-term relief efforts for affected communities,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s Office will publish these requirements in an easily accessible format, enabling both local and international donors to clearly identify the items they can provide.
This mechanism is expected to expedite the receipt of non-essential items, ensure accurate identification of essential needs, and facilitate the delivery of appropriate assistance to affected locations.
The statement further noted that supplies received from abroad will be accepted under the name of the Disaster Management Centre, allowing necessary customs and tax concessions to be applied.
