Sri Lanka Army Saves Over Rs. 18 Million Annually After Receiving 20 SUVs from Indian Army

January 18, 2026

The Sri Lanka Army has achieved significant savings of approximately Rs. 18 million annually following the induction of 20 new SUVs donated by the Indian Army.

The vehicles were officially handed over by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi during his recent visit to Sri Lanka, reflecting the strong bilateral ties between the two countries.

According to the Sri Lanka Army, the newly inducted jeeps are being utilized for both administrative and field operations. Previously, the Army relied on renting vehicles from the private sector, which cost around Rs. 1.5 million per month.

With the addition of these new vehicles to its fleet, the Army has phased out the rented vehicles, resulting in monthly savings of Rs. 1.5 million and an annual saving exceeding Rs. 18 million in government expenditure.
